Healed from rare and aggressive cancer
At the beginning of May of 2005, my 60-year-old mother told me that she was having blood loss from her genitals. Because of that I fixed a gynaecological examination. Generally it takes 8 or 10 days to take the appointment but after having called the doctor on Wednesday, she set the examination on the following day. We then understood the reason of such urgency. The doctor felt there was something awkward in it and immediately fixed an hysteroscopy to be done in day hospital and in local anaesthesia the following week.
On the day of the examination I fetched my mother and took her to the hospital. During the trip she told me about a dream she had some time before she realized the loss of blood: she was in bed in hospital and was assisted by her fond father who passed away three years before. She remembered that while s he waslying on the side with a bare shoulder and she was feeling cold. Her father covered her in an extremely protecting manner. Actually my grandfather “protected” her from something which was much more terrible and dramatic. We got to the hospital and after the preparations she entered the operating-theatre.Everything should have gone on in a short time but it didn't. When the doctors came out they were concerned for what they had seen. They immediately told us that they didn't know yet what exactly the matter was (in the meanwhile my father and my brother had arrived) but they were sure it was a malignant cancer and they pointed out it was extremely serious. The entire world seemed to be against us, the doctors strongly suggested us to keep it secret to our mother at least until they would know what they were dealing with.It was the 16th May and after seven days of torture the doctor called us. Before going ( it was the 22nd, st Rita day)I felt the need to meet the priest and tell him about what I was going through. I asked for a special prayer for my mother and he reassured me.The doctor read the response of the examination: they were malignant cells. These cells didn't belong to the organ where they had been taken and that meant that the malignant cancer came from another organ, that other organs were involved or that there could be several cancers. The tragic thing was that the cancer was spreading all over the body. A period of deep pain began for us without our mother knowing about it. We took this cross on our shoulders with courage and faith. Surely our grandfather has been an important canal of intercession to get to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Two very hard weeks followed, a urgent total body TAC, the first trip to Milan, the first examination of the hematologist in Pescara because in the meanwhile the second histopatological response said that the cells taken from the uterus were similar to blood cells and nothing more detaid could be said. I decided to take my mother to Loreto with a parish pilgrimage. Later, during tha pilgrimage Macerata-Loreto I wrote a prayer for the Vergin Mary on a sheet of paper; it was put together with other prayers and burnt in a big fire.We decided to tell our mother about the desease; her reaction and psychological condition were really important because if she had broken down it woud have been the end.We began to say our rosary every evening at home, we asked everyone for some prayers above all in our parish where they always pray for sick people. We took part to the monthly prayer meeting in the sport centre in Martinsicuro.
The final diagnosis from Rome arrived, the result was tragic: malignant lymphoma Hodgkin with big cells of B phenotype. Only after the first trip to Milan, preceded by a visit to our priest, during which he blessed her, gave her the sick unction and great encouragment, we knew from a well-known doctor that only six cases of this tumor had occurred in 25 years of his career. That was the reason why in our town nobody could tell us what to do. The doctors of Milan set the therapy with the hematologists of Pescara: four courses of chemotherapy which later became six because the tumor had got to the bone marrow. The cancer was at the fourth stage that is the last one.The therapy set a PET-TAC to be done in Macerata and finally the operation in Milan. Our cross was becoming heavier and heavier but at the same time the strenght to carry it increased as well. It is useless to say all the side effects of the chemotherapy and the pain we felt in seeing our mother on the bed with needles in her arms. During this period I have never seen my mother depressed or angry but she has faced everyting with courage, dignity and above all with great Faith.
The therapy went on with the osteomedullary biopsy and finally the surgical operation in Milan. The day before we left I took my mother to the priest who prayed for her and gave the sick unction again. We asked for our grandfather and the Vergin Mary's intercession as well.Once in Milan, after having done all the tests before the operation, the doctor called us and holding the tests' results he said with amazement that there were no more signs of malignant tumor but he suggested doing the operation as a precaution in any case. After the operation the results of the biopsy, of the histopatological and cytologic exams confirmed the complete remission of the desease!!!
Nearly a year has passed at this point and my mother is fine, thanks to God. She smiles and lives again. I hope that her witnessing can be a help for the ones who are suffering and are fighting against troubles. My mother always says that even when you see only darkness around you, little by little a glimmer of light comes out and finally the great light always wins upon evil!!
